Clear Channel Flips Bay Area Radio Station
October 29, 2004
By Nancy Ayala
On Oct. 28, Clear Channel Radio flipped a second station, KSJO-FM, which serves the San Francisco/San Jose market. The full FM station, "La Preciosa," will begin airing Regional Mexican music, a new talk show and local news. It will feature music by such artists as Vicente Fernández, Juan Gabriel and Los Bukis. For morning listeners, the 14-year radio veteran Alex Lucas will host the "El Genio Lucas" show, which will air Monday through Saturday, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Clear Channel announced in mid-September that it would change over 20 to 25 stations to a Spanish-language format within the next 18 months. KSJO-FM follows in the steps of Atlanta's WWVA-FM Viva, which was converted on Sept. 16.
Kim Bryant, San Jose market manager for Clear Channel, said the Spanish-language KSJO will offer Hispanic listeners local news, traffic and weather updates. Previously, the station had offered an English-language rock format.
