December 15, 2005
By Cara Marcano
Univision Television Network, the broadcast arm of Univision Communications Inc., will premiere its FIFA World Cup 2006 theme song, Arriba, Arriba!, from 11:49 p.m. to 11:54 p.m. on Dec. 31 with a live performance in Times Square. The broadcast, which will air live on Univision, MTV, ABC and CNN minutes before the city's famous ball drop, "is expected to reach over 222 million viewers in the U.S. alone," Univision said in a statement.
The FIFA theme song, which was commissioned by Univision, was produced by Puerto Rican salsa singer Sergio George and written by composer Jorge Luis Piloto, who has composed songs for Chayanne and Celia Cruz.
The New Year's Eve special will feature live performances by Univision Music Group artists Ana Bárbara, Pablo Montero, Mariana Seoane and Anaís, the winner of the 2005 edition of Objetivo Fama, the Spanish-language singing contest similar to American Idol in the general market.
The performance will come toward the end of the network's three-and-a-half-hour live Feliz 2006 show to be hosted by Sábado Gigante's Don Francisco and other entertainers including Daddy Yankee, Luis Fonsi, Reyli, Angel y Khris, Wisin y Yandel and Los Horóscopos de Durango.
