Telemundo Launches Mystery Show Online
January 25, 2006
By Mike Shields, Mediaweek
Telemundo will launch an original online series, Bárbara Luna, focused on an unfolding murder mystery. The new show will be part of the network's upcoming Online Mystery Theater showcase, which will debut this spring on Telemundo.com.
Telemundo is planning to produce 20 episodes of Luna, which will follow the detective Barbara Luna as she tracks down a murderer in real time, much like Fox's 24. The show will also feature both mobile and Web content designed to allow fans to follow the case continuously.
According to executives, the multi-pronged distribution of the new series gives Telemundo an advantage in a media landscape that is increasingly being delivered to users on demand.
"Our commitment to developing original programs for the Hispanic community has strategically positioned us to deliver our content to our viewers through multiple platforms," said Telemundo president Don Browne. "Bárbara Luna is the perfect example of how we can combine our production know-how with NBC Universal's and Telemundo's ability to deliver high-quality programming to our viewers when and where they want it."
Selected segments of the new show will be presented at a showcase event on Feb. 7 in Los Angeles hosted by the American Film Institute.
