Four U.S. Hispanic advertising agencies won gold, bronze and silver awards at this year's El Sol Festival Publicitario Iberoamericano, Spain's most prestigious advertising awards festival, which took place in the northern city of San Sebastián May 25-27.
In the cinema/television category, Long Beach-Calif.-based Grupo Gallegos took home a gold, a Sol de Oro, for "Beard," a 30-second TV spot for Energizer. The shop also earned a bronze, a Sol de Bronce, for its campaign for the California Milk Processor Board. Two of the campaign’s three spots, "Amazing Contortionist" and "Teeth Town," were singled out.
Dallas-based Dieste Harmel & Partners won silver, a Sol de Plata, for its Fou Fou Drink Disorder campaign for Budweiser that featurs two 30-second spots "Pinky Finger" and "Mini Mouth." Another Sol de Plata was awarded to la comunidad for its "No Seas Normal" campaign for Virgin Mobile. In the category of interactive/Web, la comunidad also won a Sol de Plata for noseasnormal.com for Virgin Mobile.
In the print category, Dieste took home a Sol de Bronce for "The Clorox Franchise," and la comunidad won a Sol de Plata for "Radio Head" and "Nirvana," two print executions for Rolling Stone magazine. Austin-based LatinWorks won a Sol de Plata for "Ernesto," "Zapata" and "Fidel," three ads for The History Channel en Español.
El Sol, previously known as Festival Publicitario de San Sebastián, is organized by the Spanish Association of Advertising Agencies (AEAP). Since 2003, the festival has welcomed work from Latin American countries, Portugal and the U.S. Hispanic market. This year's jury included Grupo Gallegos creative director Favio Ucedo.
