Fans Deliver for 'Premios Juventud'

Univision's live youth awards show Premios Juventud drew a record audience Thursday night, winning the ratings race in New York City area and pulling in 653,000 viewers to the annual pop culture and entertainment program, according to Nielsen Station Index (NSI).
Nationally, the Univision network won the night among viewers in all age categories and among English and Spanish programming in the top U.S. markets, including Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Franciso, the network said late Friday. National ratings were not available at press time.
The broadcast is the only awards event on Spanish-language television in which viewers vote for the winners on Univision.com. The event aired locally in the New York area on Univision Channel 41 (WXTV), broadcast during prime time from the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami. The show was co-hosted by Angélica Vale and Jamie Camil, stars of Univision's recently ended telenovela, La Fea Más Bella. 'La Fea' Rakes in Beautiful Ratings
In the New York area, the event increased its audience by 7 percent from its previous record of 611,000 viewers set in 2006. The New York audience included 252,000 viewers, 18 to 34, a 19 percent increase from the 203,000 viewers for the year-ago period. Viewers 18 to 34 also accounted for about 19 percent of the available young adult audience in the time period for New York area market.
Nearly 400,000 viewers in the 18-49 prime-time target group also tuned in, up 11 percent from the 358,000 TV watchers who caught the 2006 broadcast.
And viewers 25 to 54 also set a record for the night, drawing 345,000 TV watchers and outpacing local programming both in English and Spanish. Viewers 25 to 54 grew 23 percent from the 281,000 who watched the awards program in 2006.
The telecast featured appearances by Puerto Rican reggaetón sensation Daddy Yankee, Spanish pop star David Bisbal and Romeo of Dominican bachata group Aventura. Mexican pop and ranchera singing star Alejandro Fernández was recognized with a special award honoring his 15th anniversary of as one of Latin music's top recording artists.
