Telemundo, Televisa Settle Lawsuit
January 23, 2008
By Della de Lafuente
NEW YORK Telemundo announced today that it has reached a settlement agreement in a federal lawsuit filed four years ago by Grupo Televisa alleging that Telemundo had interfered with Televisa's contract with actor Mauricio Islas.
U.S. federal courts ruled that Televisa was entitled to pursue its claims under Florida law and said the contract between Televisa and Islas was a valid and enforceable cival contract, Telemundo said in a statement.
Telemundo said the network would abide by the courts' rulings and pledged to respect Televisa's rights in its contracts with actors and other artists.
"Telemundo is glad that Televisa accepted the settlement offer by Telemundo and that this four-year controversy with Grupo Televisa is over so Telemundo can focus on future projects with Grupo Televisa," Telemundo International president Marcos Santana said in a statement.
