SBS' Mega TV to Debut in P.R.

NEW YORK Spanish Broadcasting System Inc. today announced plans for the launch on Monday (Aug. 25) of Mega TV on new affiliate WSJU TV Channel 30 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The broadcast relationship is part of a retransmission agreement between SBS and the TV station's owner, AERCO, per a press statement.
Mega TV will air via local broadcast and island satellite and cable systems, including Liberty Cablevision, Choice Cable TV, One Link Communications and Dish Network, per SBS.
A press conference on Aug. 25 at the Hotel La Concha will include an appearance by Latin entertainer Chayanne, who will unveil the trailer of the upcoming Mega TV dramatic series in which he plays the starring role,"Gabriel."
Some original Mega TV programming airing in Puerto Rico, including shows such as "María Elvira Live," "Paparazzi," and "Mega News," will be customized for the island audience, said Luis Roldan, svp and gm of Mega TV in Puerto Rico.
Viewers in Puerto Rico also will see SBS talent such as Silverio Perez, Funky Joe, Gangster and Julian Gil infused into local TV programming, per Mega TV.
"The upcoming launch of Mega TV Channel 30 will enormously help our growth plan, and it will guarantee our position as a leading competitor in Hispanic television," said Cynthia Hudson-Fernandez, executive vp and chief creative officer of Mega TV, in a statement.
