NEW YORK Terra Networks said this week that its coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics attracted a company-best 22.75 million online users to its Web portals in Latin America.
Preliminary reports by Terra show the increased Olympics traffic was the largest audience to collectively visit its Web portals for a single event, accounting for one in 10, or some 15 percent, of all Internet users in 18 Latin American countries, per a press statement.
During the period beginning Aug. 6 and ending Aug. 24, Olympics aficionados visiting Terra sites generated 100 million page views and watched more than 39 million streamed videos with some 30 percent streamed live, per Terra.
Among mobile phone users, 1.5 million handheld customers generated more than 6 million page views with the largest audience going online Aug. 19 for the live streaming of the men's fútbol game between Brazil and Argentina, which generated 2 million live video streams, per a press statement.
Terra launched a designated Olympics site on Aug. 1 that featured 13 live channels simultaneously and on demand videos, broadcasting 4,000 hours of video for 732 events.
The company provided online and mobile coverage in Spanish, English and Portuguese of the Summer Games in Latin American under an agreement with the International Olympic Committee.
Terra also will provide live and on demand coverage via the Web and mobile in Latin America of the 2008 Paralympic Games, beginning on Sept. 6 and airing through Sept. 17, per a press statement.
