NEW YORK Fans of Mexico and international fútbol will find a new offering at the newsstand on Tuesday (Sept. 2) with the debut of a weekly U.S. soccer magazine inspired by Récord, the popular Mexican daily sports newspaper.

The U.S. title Récord Semanario de Fútbol will launch in California and Texas via newsstand and subscriptions sales, said Alexandra Zanic, marketing manager of the soccer title's publisher, Maya Magazines, Miami.

The magazine will guarantee an initial circ of 50,000 and an estimated reach of 200,000, with plans to expand distribution to the top 10 U.S. Hispanic markets by early 2009, Zanic said.

Advertisers on board for the magazine's premiere issue weren't disclosed, but Zanic said the soccer title plans to bring in ad placements in the auto, beverage and sportswear categories.

"This will be a very visual, photo-driven magazine with a weekly frequency that will be different from the other sports and soccer titles in the market," Zanic said.

Récord will target Hispanic male soccer fans, ages 18 to 34, showcasing content, combined with bold graphics and photography, devoted to sports and news coverage of Mexican soccer and players who play in international leagues. Entertainment and lifestyle content will also feature high-profile soccer celebrities. The magazine's newsstand price is $2.95.

Editorial content for the U.S. magazine will be produced in Mexico by the staff of its sister newspaper, Zanic said.

Récord enters a field of Hispanic-targeted soccer and sports publications in the marketplace that includes: Fútbol Mundial, a title inserted and distributed via Hispanic dailies such as ImpreMedia's La Opinión in Los Angeles and El Diario La Prensa in New York, as well as sports glossies such as ESPN Deportes La Revista and Fox Sports en Español Magazine.

Maya Magazines also publishes the U.S. editions of TVNotas and H para Hombres and is an affiliate company of Latin American publishing giant Notmusa Mexico, which is based in Mexico City.
