Mun2 to Launch Acting School Reality Series
September 26, 2008
By Della de Lafuente
NEW YORK Bicultural entertainment network mun2 unveiled plans Wednesday night (Sept. 25) to mount a reality series titled "The Callback" that will help to create a pipeline for cultivating and raising the profile of young Latino talent on broadcast TV.
The aspiring actor who prevails and garners the final callback on the mun2 series will win a guest-starring role on an NBC Universal program. The dual network partnership is considered to be the first time that sister networks will work to create a bridge for talent to emerge on a bicultural channel and crossover to a general market network.
Mun2 executives announced that the bilingual reality series will join the network's 2009 programming lineup at an event held for media buyers and press at the Gramercy Park Hotel. The series is scheduled to debut in June with actress Paula Garces handling hosting duties.
"Latinos are the largest minority group in the United States, yet they account for only four percent of regular prime-time characters on network television," said Alex Pels, gm of mun2. "Mun2 wants to help change this dynamic by working in synergy with NBC Universal and making the dream of one aspiring Latino actor a reality."
Twenty finalists will be selected from among a wide-scale casting call to attend the mun2 acting academy, modeled after Taller Telemundo, a program designed by Telemundo to inspire, discover, recruit and train the next generation of Hispanic writers and actors.
The mun2 acting academy will winnow down the competitive field of talent to 12 finalists. The aspiring actors/competitors will perform for a panel of judges, including NBCU casting directors, producers, actors and executives.
Mun2 viewers will also have the opportunity to select their favorite actor by voting online on HolaMun2.com. The fan-favorite actor/competitor will win a starring role on a mun2 short form series.
