SBS Hosts First Upfront for Mega TV

May 11, 2008-- Spanish Broadcasting System hosted its first upfront presentation for Mega TV in New York City, unveiling upcoming programming and a distribution agreement with an affiliate station in Puerto Rico. Executives of the network were on hand to meet with some 300 marketers and media buyers, posing for a company wide photo (above) that included Cynthia Hudson, evp and chief creative officer (above, right of podium) and featured SBS talent for upcoming programs. Among them, Latino superstar Chayanne, (on home page, left) who will star in the title role of SBS' Megafilms debut miniseries "Gabriel," and his costar Angelica Celaya, (on home page, right). The duo took a turn on the Red Carpet prior to the Gothic themed event held on April 24 at Guastavino's, a New York historic landmark space situated under the 59th Street Bridge.


Univision's Dr. Isabel Rolls Out Scott brand Dichonario Road Tour

April 21, 2008-- Scott brand has taken its ambitious Dichonario project on the road, embarking on a nationwide road tour earlier this month to collect dichos, or pearls of wisdom. The mobile Dichonario project boasts its own fleet of 15 branded motor scooters that pull small trailers housing interactive portable computers designed for gathering the traditional sayings. Univision Radio on-air psychologist Dr. Isabel Gomez-Bassols, (on home page), a spokeswoman for Kimberly-Clark's multibrand initiative, took a scooter for a test-drive to gauge the success of the mobile Dichonario's debut (above) at the first Scott brand Feria del Dicho (Festival of Dichos) at Hollenbeck Park in Los Angeles. The Dichonario tour will roam the streets of Hispanic neighborhoods in Southern California through the end of April, followed by stops in Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, San Antonio and Phoenix, ending in Miami on June 13, the company said. The roving Dichonario is part of marketing campaign led by Miami-based MASS Hispanic Marketing, to compile the dichos into a dictionary. That effort led to the current plan to make the Dichonario more inclusive "by bringing it into the hearts of some of the country's largest Hispanic communities," Wendy Jacobsen, consumer promotion marketing manager, Scott brand, said in a statement.


Lopez Negrete Starts Hispanic Marketing Education Fund

March 26, 2008-- Lopez Negrete Communications has established a Hispanic marketing education fund in conjunction with the Advertising Education Foundation of Houston to benefit students at four universities who are pursuing careers in Hispanic marketing and advertising. The Lopez Negrete Hispanic Marketing Education Fund will award annual scholarships to select recipients who demonstrate strong potential for pursuing successful careers in advertising, marketing, communications, radio/television, media studies, market research and other related fields. The scholarships will be available to students attending the University of Houston, St. Thomas University, Emerson College and Florida State University. The AEFH Board of Directors will be responsible for awarding the scholarships to students who meet the criteria established by company founders Alex and Cathy López Negrete. The scholarship program was announced by Alex López Negrete, president and CEO, Lopez Negrete Communications during a luncheon hosted last week by the American Advertising Federation of Houston. The Advertising Education Foundation is the federation's charitable foundation. Yahoo! Telemundo Goes Live From Paz Sin Fronteras Concert

March 19, 2008-- The Hispanic Web portal last week established a page at yahootelemundo.com/musica featuring exclusive live video coverage of the Concierto Paz Sin Fronteras (The Peace Without Borders Concert), held March 16, at the Simon Bolivar Bridge on the Colombia and Venezuela border. The special site provided live video streaming of the concert and gave users the capability to view and communicate online simultaneously. The page also features photos from the concert on the Web portal's photo site Flickr: (as shown here and on home page) and of the organizer, rock star Juanes, and fellow recording artists (some shown above) including Carlos Vives, Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Bosé and Juan Luis Guerra. The concert was mounted to promote peace in the Americas and to help ease tensions between Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. An estimated crowd of 100,000 attended the live concert with millions of others watching around the world via the Internet and international broadcast networks.


Cuervo Honors the Faces of the Mexican National Team's Fans

March 07, 2008-- Jose Cuervo Tradicional set a goal of finding and showcasing the many exuberant faces of fans of the Mexican National Soccer Team who best embody their new campaign tag "Mexico, You Always Have it On." Among the eight fans picked as the "Tradicionistas of the Game" during a Feb. 3 contest between Mexico and the United States at Reliant Stadium in Houston were: Victor Aguirre, (on home page), who donned the colors of the Mexican flag across his face, topped with a Mariachi hat and a Mexico team jersey, and the soccer fan duo of Stephen Eastepp and Daisy Yañez (above, left to right),who wrapped themselves in team spirit and the Mexican flag.


Univision Celebrates 20th Year of 'Premio Lo Nuestro'

February 25, 2008-- Boasting some of Latin music's biggest stars, the live broadcast Feb. 21 of Univision's Premio Lo Nuestro a La Música Latina honored recording artists of today and those who paved the way such as the "King of Ranchero" Vicente Fernández. The Mariachi legend made his debut performance on the show and was awarded this year's "Premio a la Excelencia" by venerable TV host Don Francisco and Univision news anchor María Elena Salinas. Later in the evening, talk show host Cristina Saralegui presented the "Máxima Excelencia" award to Ricky Martin. Walking the Red Carpet prior to the show were (on home page) Univision husband-and-wife anchor team Fernando del Rincon and Carmen Dominicci and (above)the members of newest version of the Latino boy band Menudo (left to right): Chris Moy, Emmanuel Vélez Pagán, José Bordonada Collazo, José "Monti" Montañez and Carlos Olivero.


La Comunidad's Mollá Bros. Featured in 'Men's Vogue'

January 28, 2008-- La Comunidad founders, creative directors and brothers Joaquín and José Mollá (above and on home page) and their successful bicontinental shop (they have offices in Miami and Buenos Aires) are featured in the February 2008 issue of Men's Vogue, alongside other high-profile men including Alec and William Baldwin. La Comunidad and the Vidal Partnership were recently was selected by Johnson & Johnson to handle its U.S. Hispanic business.
